Russian diplomats will visit Roman Seleznyov who is under custody on the US island Guam delivered there by the US special service from the Maldives, on July 13-14, twitted Russian Foreign Ministry’s Commissioner for Human Rights, Democracy and the Rule of Law, Konstantin Dolgov.

“We’ll insist on considering his lawful rights and interests, including procedural rights as a Russian citizen,” said Dolgov.

The Ministry earlier reported Seleznyov had been detained on July 5 at the international airport in the capital of the Maldives, Malй. On the same day, he was put on a private plane by the U.S. Secret Service and delivered to Guam. The fact has been confirmed in the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

The Russian ministry assesses the incident as “Washington’s another unfriendly step” and expects explanations from the US.

The US investigators suspect the Russian citizen of stealing and selling data about the US citizens’ credit cards from October 2009 to February 2011. In March of 2011, Washington court pressed 29 charges in absentia that can face Seleznyov with a several-decade imprisonment and million-dollar fines. Besides, Nevada initiated a criminal case on suspicion of participating in a criminal group of blackmailers.

Earlier on Friday, Seleznyov’s father, the Duma deputy Valery Seleznyov, told  the Russian Consul in San Francisco would visit Roman on July 13.
